Breastfeeding Education Classes
Although breastfeeding is natural, it doesn't always come easily and is a learned art. Most women, given time and support, can and do breastfeed. Our aim is to provide expectant parents with the confidence to successfully breastfeed their babies.
Our courses are designed for expectant and new parents to prepare for the vital days, weeks and months after their baby's birth. We encourage parents to attend while pregnant or early after the birth. These sessions aim to expand upon the knowledge gained at antenatal classes, to give up-to-date information and insights into breastfeeding a baby and parenting in the early days.
We also try to include a real-life demonstration of breastfeeding by a volunteer mother with a small baby. This is subject to availability, but we usually manage to find a generous volunteer to provide this most valuable experience!
Our comprehensive workshop-style sessions cover:
- How breastfeeding works and breastmilk is made
- Breast and nipple care
- How to breastfeed a new baby
- What to expect from a new baby
- Adjusting to parenthood, the effect of a new baby on the parents' relationship & the role of the father in breastfeeding
The cost is $85 per couple, which includes:
- 3 hour workshop-style class, including time for afternoon tea
- Refreshments provided
- Folder of breastfeeding information and resources
- One year's subscription to the Australian Breastfeeding Association (value $65.00) which includes:
